Why Adopt from Us?

At Paws and Claws, we prioritize the well-being of our animals. Every dog undergoes a thorough behavior assessment before being accepted into our shelter. Our animals are fully vetted, microchipped, and desexed (unless they are too young; in which case, the cost of desexing is included in the adoption fee for a future date). They are also wormed and up to date with vaccinations.

We take pride in carefully matching our pets with the right families, and we have a structured process to ensure successful adoptions. It’s important to note that, on average, 1 in 5 shelter dogs end up back in the shelter. Adopting a pet is a significant commitment, and we believe it is our responsibility to find the best fit for each animal.

While some visitors may wish to see all available dogs at once, we approach adoption differently. This practice can lead to impulsive decisions, which may not result in the best match. Instead, we ask potential adopters to complete a pre-adoption questionnaire. This allows us to gain insight into your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a dog, as well as information about your living situation.

Based on your responses, we will recommend suitable dogs and schedule an appointment for you to meet them. This dedicated time ensures we can provide thorough answers to your questions and make the process as smooth as possible. While it may seem lengthy, we believe this careful approach is essential for both you and the animal, ensuring that they find their forever home and don’t return to the shelter.

Adoption Prices effective 1st July 2025

Dogs

Puppy 2-6mths – $500

Adult dog – $400

Cats

Kitten 2-6mths – $250

Adult Cats – $200

*** All animals are microchipped, wormed, vet checked, up to date on all vaccinations, desexed *** if kitten or puppy an appointment will be made for them at time of adoption for a later date when appropriate and is covered in the adoption fee.
